Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 in Long Beach, California. As a child DuVernay's Aunt Denise encouraged her passion for art and creativity. The aunt who was a night shift nurse, let her explore art and literature as well as the theater in the daylight. Her disappointment was evident in the journalism assignments she was assigned and chose to move into the field of public relations. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior publicity assistant for a film studio that was small shortly after she graduated from college.
